When setting up TaVo, the Downloader app is required for installation. Not every TV supports it, so here’s a quick guide to know what works—and what doesn’t.
TVs and Devices that Can Run Downloader
-
Amazon Fire TV (Firestick, Fire TV Cube, Fire TV Edition TVs)
-
Android TV / Google TV Smart TVs, including:
-
TCL (Android/Google TV models only — not Roku)
-
Sony Bravia
-
Hisense
-
Philips
-
Sharp (Android models)
-
-
Nvidia Shield TV (Android TV box, same system)
-
Chromecast with Google TV (not a TV itself, but runs the same system)
TVs that Cannot Run Downloader
-
Roku TVs (TCL Roku, Hisense Roku, ONN Roku, etc.)
-
Samsung Smart TVs (Tizen OS)
-
LG Smart TVs (webOS)
-
Vizio SmartCast TVs
-
Any TV with a closed operating system that does not support APK sideloading
Rule of Thumb
If your TV has the Google Play Store built-in, it can run Downloader.
If it only has a proprietary app store (like Roku Channel Store, LG Content Store, Samsung Apps), it cannot.
Workaround for Unsupported TVs
Even if your TV isn’t compatible, you can still use TaVo by plugging in an external device such as:
-
Amazon Firestick
-
Chromecast with Google TV
-
Android TV box
These devices make your TV fully compatible with Downloader and allow you to install TaVo without issues.
